Musings on a Mother’s Day!

Happy Mother’s Day Pandas! Do you like the pic of my guinea pig Penny? I feel like a mother to her! haha

I know that I want to wish my lovely mother a wonderful Mother’s Day! How are you guys celebrating? We went out for brunch and had a relaxing day at home!

Unfortunatley most of my Mother’s Day, and the rest of my week has been taken up by my Senior Thesis (do not fear! regular and awesome posts will continue next week!!!) so I am a little stressed out.

However, while doing said thesis, my mind wanders over to my messy make up vanity and drawers and I think to myself “ew…how hideous, I need mroe organization!”

So, after my project is done, I am planning on doing a revamp of my make up storage and I want to ask you guys for help. How should I go about this?

1) by brand?

2) by color?

3) by product type?

How do you guys organize your make up? Any helpful hints? Let me know! Enjoy this beautiful Sunday!

Lavender Glitter Eye Liner!

Hey Pandas!

So I know that purple eyeliner isn’t very conventional, but just in case you were in the market for one, I have NYX’s eye pencil in Lavender Glitter which costs around $3 to show you as a cheap option!

Pretty standard eye pencil, the glitter is nearly impossible to photograph but you can see the little silver glitter flecks on the tip in person.

In natural light: Pretty! Use a sticky eye shadow primer/base before using this to prevent fallout. Otherwise, this translates beautifully onto skin!

The color with a flash is more blue, but here you can see the nice opacity of the swatch. This is a true lavender, with sparkly silver glitter! Exactly how described, thank goodness!

Overall Thoughts: This is a cheap, fun color that is true to it’s description. Wear a sticky base and this will last all day with minimal fallout!

NYX Ultra Pearl Mania Loose Powder in “Orange Pearl”


So, I like loose powder shadows, but I have to admit I only used the ones that BareMinerals made. I recently came across NYX’s Loose Powder’s and for $1.99 a piece, these are a steal!

This is their Ultra Pearl Mania loose powder in Orange Pearl. It comes in a tiny, cute, portable bottle that is 5 ml.

You only need the TINIEST bit (this swatch was the amount of powder I could fit under my pinky nail. TINY) and it gives such an amazing color payoff. I am truly impressed. This lasted all day (10 hours for me) with a primer.

The color is just as vibrant in natural light and almost has a nice glow to it! Fun product!

Overall Thoughts: Yes it is messy and a slight hassle, but the results are so pretty!

NYX HD Photogenic concealer

Hey My Favorite People Ever!

I just realized I don’t have any concealer reviews…so here we go! NYX High Definition Photogenic Concealer in “Light”

I am VERY pale, so I picked the lightest shade to review, but they have many different shades (about 7 in total) and this retails for $6. Not bad for a full tube of concealer.

Simple doe foot applicator in a clear tube. I like my concealer on the lighter side (your concealer should be one shade lighter than your skin tone/foundation) otherwise you will end up with weird patchy dark spots once you put your foundation on!

This is a medium to slightly thick formula. Some people like that, I don’t personally mind. It look a bit light on my skin but that is just how I like it. The formula is still creamy, and I found that it wore on my under-eyes and on my face for about 9 hours. Not too shabby.

Here it is with a flash blended out. It covers pretty seamlessly so the “HD” part is a YES for me. Totally got that covered. But since this shows up even whiter with the flash, I am not sold on the “PHOTOGENIC” claim. Sorry NYX.

Here it is blended lightly onto my hand without flash in natural light.

Overall Thoughts: Great, smooth, full coverage concealer at a dirt cheap price that lasts all day. Good for every day wear, but I would NOT recommend for weddings or other events where lots of flash pictures are being taken!

NYX Roll on Shimmer in Nude

Hey PrettyPandas!

I want to introduce you to a product I have been getting so many compliments on in real life when I wear it out! It has quickly become part of my daily make up routine, which is a HARD thing for a product to do for me!

This fabulous little gem is NYX’s roll on shimmer in “Nude”

I reviewed another of these in ONYX a while back, but I love love love the nude version. I use it to accent almost all of my eye looks now because it is so simple and goes with everything!

Standard rollerball application means it can go anywhere, on lids, to highlight cheeks, on the brow bone, etc. Super easy and spill-proof for a klutz like me.

HOLY amazingness. Look at that shimmer! This is one LIGHT roll of the product. This packs sooo much punch and will last forever. I love to use it over a cream shadow base, to make sure the glitter really holds on all day (and it does!)

This is very gold-ish which I love. It is perfect for summer! I am so in love with this product.

Overall Thoughts: Perfect summer shimmer, easy to wear and apply, and looks amazing! What is not to love?

NYX Cream Shadow in Hunter Green — My Search for the Perfect Green Continues

I don’t know if it is because it is springtime, or because I am just recently obsessed with green… but I do have a new green find to show you.

It is NYX’s cream shadow in Hunter Green, which retails for $4.99.

In the tube it looks like a very dark teal, but this is a true deep emerald. I like their cream shadow formula, but make sure to wear a primer because this stuff will crease without it.

Pretty standard doe foot applicator. I smear it around with my fingers once it is on my eyes, or I use an eyeshadow brush because I think it provides more precision.

And…it’s…olive? This is one layer swatched in natural light. Pretty dissapointing. It is a pretty color but not what I wanted.

Here it is swatched with a flash, and it appears darker green. Interesting.

Overall Thoughts: Love the formula but not the color. This is just a personal preference thing, because it is still pretty– but if you are going to name a color ‘Hunter Green’ is should kind of resemble that/

Pink Eye Liner??!!

Hey Pandas,

I know what you are thinking, she must be crazy! Who wears pink eye liner? Well…I normally don’t…but pink and red eye shadows are becoming really popular right now.

So for those of you who like their make up on the bright side, or just feel adventurous, here is a cheap way to acheive that look!

NYX’s retractable eye liner in “Pink” which retails for $4.

This product comes in a colored metallic tube and is self-sharpening. The tip is think and rounded but smooth and fairly creamy.

The pigmentation is slighty patchy, but because these colors are new to the market in “eye-safe” version, we can’t as consumers expect too much yet. It does it’s job and appears as more of a magenta than a hot pink.

There is a little bit of a duochrome effect to it and it leans slightly purple in places. I think it could be a fun accent color but I definitley would NOT use it under the eyes, as that could create a gross pink eye look. Proceed with caution. I know I will.

Maybe I will post a look soon using this, would that be something you guys would like? The wear on this is great, but I am still squeamish about the color.

Space Inspired bareMinerals Eye Liners

Pandas! What a fun trio I have for you today!

Introducing bareMinerals Metallic Eyeliners!

From Left to Right: Comet (a bronze), Galaxy (a gunmetal), and Orbit (a silver/white). Yes, Orbit came to me broken because they are almost too creamy for their own good and this happens with these types of eye liners. Just wanted to make you aware!

Comet is such a pretty, antique bronze and Galaxy is really unique. Orbit was a dud even after sharpening and had very little pigmentation.

These are so pretty and are really metallic. They retail for $16 each.

Overall Thoughts: If you are looking for a nice metallic, Comet is a great option. If you are looking for a twist on black eye liner, try Galaxy. Skip orbit all-together. These lasted all day and were very creamy.

Rimmel London Glam’Eyes Shadow in “Dusk”

I’ve been looking for a basic, matte brown shadow for a while now. Both for my eyebrows and as a contour color. I always go for the vibrant crazy colors, so I needed a good neutral.

Along came Rimmel London’s Glam’Eyes mono shadow in “Dusk”

This is a nice, medium brown that comes in a decent sized compact pan with a double sided foam applicator for $3.49. Sweet deal.

It takes a few layers to get to this point but it is a TRUE matte, which I am appreciative of. Those things are hard to find lately!

I am pretty happy with this product. Not the most exciting, but you do not need a primer with this stuff and it lasts a long time for such a cheap drugstore steal (which, to be honest, it a college girls’ budget).

Overall Thoughts: A good pick for a simple basic!

bareMinerals Big and Bright Eye Liner in “Sage”

So, I have exciting news,

I have found my new favorite eye liner. I hope you like it too!

It is bareMinerals’ Big and Bright Liner in “Sage” which retails for $18

The liner itself comes in sleek matte packaging and is of the twist up variety.

LOOK LOOK LOOK at this! How pretty and unique is this color? I would say it is a dark sage with some gold glitter. This has amazing creamy-ness, lasts ALL day and makes my brown eyes really pop!

I just love how crazy pigmented it is! This is truly amazing liner and I think bareMinerals has hit a home run with this one! Can’t wait to try out more colors! This has made it into my permanent rotation! YAY. Nearly HG status :)

Overall Thoughts: Perfect. Done.

NYX Lipliner in Flower

Hey Pandas!

I am normally not a lipliner girl…but I thought I would pick one up to try and match some of my fleshy nude lipsticks and glosses that I recently swatched for all of you! I thought it could help give me a 60′s-ish vibe, since I am always striving for that!

Introducing NYX lipliner in “Flower” which retails for just under $4, which is a steal. I have come to really love and trust NYX cosmetics lately (as you are probably well aware if you read this blog) so I thought it would be a good find!

This is much more shimmery than I thought it would be. Definitley not a matte lip pencil but I do like the pretty, pale pink color!

I love the way it looks in natural light. It doesn’t give my lips “concealor” lip either which is a plus. It helped my nude Buxom gloss hang on for about 5 hours instead of 3, so that was an improvement, but I just liked the subtle definition and color it gave.

Overall: Cheap, a wide array of colors, and long lasting.
